The IFRS Foundation has today announced the appointment of Rowena Chu as a new Trustee. Ms Chu brings decades of leadership experience to the Foundation from working in financial services in Asia and North America. Her appointment is effective immediately for a term ending 31 December 2027.
The Trustees are responsible for the strategy, governance and oversight of the Foundation, including the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) and the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB).
Rowena Chu is co-founder and Chairman of investment platform Orion3 Group, where she oversees strategy, governance, compliance and capital raising.
Prior to co-founding Orion3 Group, Ms Chu spent more than 40 years in investment banking. For half that time, she was with Deutsche Bank, most recently as Chairman of Hong Kong Coverage and Vice Chairman of Greater China Coverage.
Ms Chu’s experience includes serving as Chief Financial Officer of ICG Asia Ltd, Head of Asia Technology Division for equity capital markets at Merrill Lynch, Co-Head of Greater China Division at JPMorgan Chase & Co and auditor of investment banks at PwC, New York.
She holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Boston University.
Ms Chu succeeds Teresa Ko, who stepped down at the end of 2024. Her appointment brings the Trustee complement to 22 and the number of Trustees from Asia-Oceania Trustees to six, as required by the IFRS Foundation Constitution.
Erkki Liikanen, Chair of the Trustees, said:
I am pleased to welcome Rowena to the IFRS Foundation Trustees. Her deep investor expertise and governance experience will make her a complement to the group and an asset to the Foundation.
Rowena Chu said:
It is an honour to serve as a Trustee. I look forward to contributing towards the Foundation’s mission and advancing its important work to bring better information to the capital markets.
Ms Chu’s appointment has been approved by the IFRS Foundation Monitoring Board, which provides a formal link between the Trustees and public authorities.
