Makoto Takahashi replaces Mitsuhiro Takemura as Office Director of the Foundation’s regional liaison office in Tokyo, starting in May.
Mr Takemura has been the office director since the Asia-Oceania office was established in 2012 and is returning to Deloitte, where he was seconded from, when his term with the Foundation ends in April.
The Tokyo office provides a regional point of contact for stakeholders with an interest in financial reporting across the Asia-Oceania region and serves as a research hub, supporting the International Accounting Standards Board (Board) in its work.
Mr Takahashi will be in charge of the day-to-day operations of the office, supporting the work of the IFRS Foundation and the Board among stakeholders across the Asia-Oceania region. He will be seconded to the IFRS Foundation from the Japanese Financial Accounting Standards Foundation.
Mr Takahashi was previously Director and Chief Financial Officer at Summit Inc, a subsidiary of Sumitomo Corporation, with more than 100 supermarkets in Tokyo. From 1982 to 2016, he held various positions with Sumitomo Corporation in London, Nagoya, New York and Tokyo. Mr Takahashi has a law degree from Keio University, Tokyo.
