In response to feedback received on the Exposure Draft Measurement of Liabilities in IAS 37, published in 2010, the Board suspended this project, to allow it to focus on higher priority projects and pending completion of its project to revise the Conceptual Framework for Financial Reporting. Consequently, this project is closed.
In 2015, the Board started a new research project titled ‘Provisions’.
In 2005 the Board published for public comment an exposure draft of Proposed Amendments to IAS 37 Provisions, Contingent Liabilities and Contingent Assets and IAS 19 Employee Benefits. In response to comments received on those proposals, the Board developed more guidance on one part of the proposals: the measurement of liabilities such as liabilities to decommission assets and liabilities arising from legal disputes. In 2010 the Board published for public comment an exposure draft containing revised proposals for measuring liabilities within the scope of IAS 37.
Respondents expressed significant opposition to some of the proposals in both the 2005 and 2010 Exposure Drafts. In 2010, the Board suspended the project, to allow it to focus on higher priority projects and pending completion of its project to revise the Conceptual Framework for Financial Reporting.
Subsequently, the Board decided not to restart this project but instead started a new research project titled ‘Provisions’. That research project is not a continuation of this project although the Board will make use of evidence it gathered during this project.
