About the role

Reports to: IT Director

Job purpose: The AV Manager will work as part of the IFRS Foundation’s Technology team, responsible for the management and delivery of AV-based content, systems and services for the organisation.

This senior management role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of AV operations globally, in a geographically diverse environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent leadership skills and a proven track record including service management, strategic planning, team leadership and ensuring the delivery of high-quality AV services.

Background: The IFRS Foundation uses AV extensively in its engagement with stakeholders and the wider world, through virtual meetings, live broadcast events, webcasts, podcasts and the latest AV technologies. The AV team support IFRS Foundation staff in the production and distribution of content, ensuring consistently high levels of quality.

The IFRS Foundation has a cloud-first approach to technology service delivery and uses cloud platforms including Microsoft 365, Salesforce.com and elements of the Adobe stack, including AEM and Analytics. The Foundation also makes extensive use of the Kaltura video platform.

Key responsibilities

AV service management

  • Oversee the installation, configuration and maintenance of AV systems, including sound systems, video displays, projectors, lighting and control systems.
  • Ensure all AV equipment is properly maintained and functioning correctly.
  • Review existing services and make recommendations for future development.

Content management and broadcasting

  • Provide support and advice on content creation for all departments.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to develop videos, podcasts and other multimedia content.
  • Incorporate feedback from team members and stakeholders to improve content quality and relevance.
  • Review and edit content to maintain high standards of quality and consistency.

Event support

  • Provide AV support for events, conferences, meetings and other functions, ensuring all technical requirements are met.
  • Work with event organisers to understand required AV needs and provide tailored solutions.
  • Manage live event production, including sound mixing, video recording and streaming.
  • Plan and manage an event calendar to ensure consistent production schedules and resource allocation.

Team leadership and management

  • Lead, train and manage a team of AV technicians and support staff.
  • Schedule and assign tasks to team members, ensuring optimal staffing levels for various events and projects.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback to team members.

Project management

  • Plan and oversee AV projects from inception to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of AV systems.
  • Manage vendor relationships and coordinate with external contractors for specialized AV installations or services.

Strategic planning and development

  • Develop and implement AV policies, procedures and best practices to ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Stay updated with the latest AV technologies and trends to recommend and implement upgrades and improvements.
  • Conduct needs assessments and propose strategic initiatives to enhance AV capabilities.

Budget management

  • Develop and manage the AV budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources.
  • Monitor expenditures and provide financial reports to senior management.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising service quality.

Inventory and asset management

  • Maintain an inventory of AV equipment and ensure all assets are properly tracked and accounted for.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure equipment is in good condition.
  • Manage the procurement of new AV equipment and negotiate contracts with suppliers.

Training and development

  • Provide ongoing training and professional development opportunities for AV staff to keep their skills current.
  • Develop training materials and documentation for AV systems and procedures.
  • Conduct workshops and training sessions for other staff members on how to use AV equipment effectively.

Customer service

  • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external clients.
  • Address client feedback and concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Strive to exceed client expectations in all AV service delivery aspects.

Required skills and experience

  • Extensive experience in AV service delivery and within a leadership role.
  • Strong technical knowledge of AV systems, including sound, video, lighting and control systems. With knowledge of the following: 
    • audio mixers; 
    • cameras, ideally using Crestron, ClearOne, Polycom, Sennheiser and screens from several manufacturers such as Samsung and Sony;
    • video and audio capture devices such as Magewell;
    • cameras from Cisco and PTZOptics and room systems from Polycom interfaced to Lenovo docks for Teams connection;
    • camera extenders between rooms;
    • Canon cameras for talking head recording;
    • Sennheiser radio mic systems; and
    • Aptronics hearing loop.
  • Use of Kaltura, Zoom and other broadcast technologies.
