About the role

Reports to: Managing Director

Job purpose: As Chief Development Officer (CDO), you’ll lead a globally diverse team in the design and execution of a multi-stakeholder funding strategy aimed at increasing the general level of funding available to support our mission, activities and growth objectives. You’ll also use your relationship-building skills to engage with current and prospective funders of the IFRS Foundation around the globe. 

As a member of the executive team, you will report to the Managing Director and partner with Foundation leadership to ensure that the organisation continues to grow and evolve to advance our mission amid ever-changing needs. 

The team: You will provide strategic leadership to our newly integrated team that combines fundraising and revenue origination teams. This senior position oversees a dynamic structure of six direct reports and leads a diverse, multi-jurisdictional team of 20+ professionals. 

Principal accountabilities

  • Design, lead and execute a multi-stakeholder funding strategy aimed at increasing the general level of funding available to support the activities of the IFRS Foundation, ensuring alignment with the Foundation’s mission and growth objectives.  
  • Support the work of the Managing Director and Trustees in managing relationships with different funders of the IFRS Foundation (for example, investors, corporates, philanthropists, governments etc).
  • Lead and manage the Foundation’s global revenue-generating activities. Nurture, guide and support the skills and talents of the teams to foster engagement, motivation and high performance among team members. 
  • Proactively research and track potential funding opportunities through market analysis and stakeholder engagement.
  • Develop and implement performance metrics and evaluation tools to ensure the team’s performance meets or exceeds fundraising and revenue targets and other Foundation goals. 

Skills and attributes 

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage with senior policy makers from a variety of geographies and cultural backgrounds.
  • Experience managing a sales organisation. 
  • Ability to foster a culture of collaboration, innovation and continuous learning among the team and across the Foundation. 
  • Effective communicator and storyteller, capable of inspiring others through mission-focused narratives and representing the organisation passionately.
  • Excellent standard of oral English with the ability to effectively participate in meetings through listening, influencing and giving and receiving constructive feedback. 
  • Strong team ethic and ability to work collaboratively with other teams across the organisation. 
  • Capable of setting and promoting ambitious goals, challenging the status quo and motivating teams through confidence and optimism. 
  • Ability to present analysis, findings, recommendations and proposals to executive-level audiences. 
  • Ability to question and challenge thinking in a proactive manner that draws out critical issues and questions while maintaining relationships. 
  • Positive and flexible attitude, high degree of integrity and professionalism and ability to remain composed under pressure. 
  • Good problem-solving skills and ability to think on one’s feet and ensure that any issues are dealt with in the best interests of the organisation.  

Qualifications and experience 

Essential

  • Prior experience at a senior level in development roles in the private sector or public authorities and/or extensive experience with fundraising or marketing in the private sector or not-for-profits.
  • Proven track record of maintaining best practices, clear goals and shared accountability, as well as working across teams when necessary to achieve results. 
  • Proven track record in managing relationships with public and private stakeholders. 
  • Proficiency in strategic planning, fluent in both for-profit and not-for-profit business practices and capable of integrating development planning into overall organisational financial plans. 

Preferred

  • Experience in international membership organisations or in private sector organisations with public-service interaction.
  • Familiarity with financial services, financial reporting standards, sustainability disclosures or policy.
