About the role

Reports to: Director of Finance

Job purpose: The Financial Controller will play a pivotal role in group reporting, group budgeting and treasury management for the IFRS Foundation and its multiple location entities. This role primarily involves assisting the Director of Finance with group financial reporting, developing and building the group’s budget, and overseeing treasury and cash flow management.

Principal responsibilities

Group financial reporting

Review individual entity accounts across the organisation and consolidate them for group reporting purposes. Prepare comprehensive group management accounts and reports, including:

  • P&L forecasting: develop detailed profit and loss forecasts to project future financial performance.
  • KPI analysis: identify, monitor and report key performance indicators to assess the organisation’s operational and financial health.
  • Variance analysis: conduct thorough variance analysis to compare actual results against budgeted figures, explaining deviations.
  • Financial commentary: provide insightful financial commentary to contextualise the numbers, highlighting trends, risks and opportunities.
  • Monthly and quarterly reports: generate timely monthly and quarterly financial reports to inform management decisions and strategic planning.
  • Assist the CFO and the Director of Finance with the preparation of the annual consolidated financial statements and accompanying notes.
  • Coordinate the delivery of auditor requests with the wider team.

Budgeting

  • Collaborate with the CFO to align the group business plan with the development of the group budget.
  • Assist Director of Finance with building the group budget, acting as the main contact point for other departments across the organisation and reporting against budget on a monthly basis.

Treasury management

  • Oversee treasury operations, including cash flow forecasting, liquidity management and executing investment strategies.

Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to established financial internal controls and procedures.

Ad hoc

  • Support the Director of Finance with ad hoc tasks as required.

Skills, attributes and experience required

Qualifications

  • Recognised professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA).

Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of IFRS Accounting Standards and financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting. 
  • At least four years post-qualification in a group finance role, with budgeting and multi-currency experience.
