Jorge Familiar

Biography

Jorge Familiar has more than 20 years’ experience in leadership roles in the financial sector and is Vice-President and Treasurer for the World Bank. He also serves as the Pension Finance Administrator of the World Bank Group.

Originally from Mexico and now living in Washington DC, he is responsible for the capital markets operations and oversees an annual funding program of US$60 to 70 billion through debt issuances of IBRD and IDA. He leads a global team of capital markets professionals in the prudent management of a US$200 billion debt portfolio and a US$170 billion asset portfolio managed for the World Bank Group and over 70 clients. He heads the World Bank Treasury’s capacity building, advisory and capital market intermediation services in financial analytics, asset management, and financial solutions for its clients.

As Pension Finance Administrator of the World Bank Group, he supervises the investment and administration of the World Bank Group’s pension plans—with US$30 billion assets under management.

Jorge has worked for the World Bank twice in his career, as member of the Board of Executive Directors during his first stint between 2004 and 2008, and as Vice-President of various portfolios, including the Latin America and Caribbean Region and World Bank Group Controller, in his current run since 2010.

Earlier in his career, Jorge was CEO of Mexico’s Instituto Fonacot, a government-owned financial institution, and Vice-Chair of Securities and Derivatives Markets Supervision at the Comisión Nacional Bancaria y de Valores, a government agency in Mexico.

Jorge became an IFRS Foundation Trustee on 1 January 2022 and was appointed to serve a second term from 1 January 2025.
